Jahangir was born to Akbar and Harka Bai in 1605. His original name was Salim
Jahangir was born to Akbar and Harka Bai in 1605. His original name was Salim, he was named after Sheikh Salim Chisti, the Sufi saint. His mother, Harka Bai, was a Rajput princess of Ajmer royal family.

He married to Man Bai, who was the daughter of Bhagwan Das, his maternal uncle. He also married Jagat Gosai(Jodh Bai) and had a son named Khurram (Shah Jahan) with her. On the Birth of his son Khurram, Jahangir gave the title of “Mallika-e-Jahan” to Jagat Gosai.
He also married to Mehrun Nisha (Noor Jahan) and gave her the title of “Badshah Begum” as she was actively engaged in political and administrative decisions. She is also the only Mughal Queen to have coins issued on her name.
He made a tomb of Anarkali in Lahore.
He gave 2500 Mansab to Bir Singh Bundela, the assassin of Abul Fazal.
Not only that, but he also wrote “Tujuk-e-Jahangiri”, his autobiography, becoming only the second mughal sultan to write his own memoir after Babur, who wrote “Tujuk-e-Babri”.
